YABATECH Rector Commends Dr Mfon Okpok for $20,000 AI, Machine Learning Server Donation
The Rector of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Dr Engr. Ibraheem Abdul, has commended the Chief Executive Officer of MOC-AI International, Dr Mfon Okpok, for donating a high-performance Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) Server valued at $20,000 to the institution, describing the gesture as a significant investment in Nigeria’s digital education and technological future.
The donation was made during the opening ceremony of the NBTE-NCCE-MOC Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning International Conference and Seminar for South-West Polytechnics and Colleges of Education held at YABATECH, Lagos.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the institution, Abdul said the server would strengthen the College’s capacity to deliver cutting-edge training in artificial intelligence, support advanced research, and position YABATECH as a leading hub for AI education, innovation and digital transformation in Nigeria.
He thanked Dr Okpok and MOC-AI International for partnering with the institution to promote emerging digital technologies, assuring that the equipment would be effectively deployed to enhance teaching, learning, research and skills development.
The Rector noted that the donation aligns with YABATECH’s strategic vision of producing graduates equipped with the digital competencies required to thrive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Presenting the AI/ML Server, Dr Okpok said the donation underscores MOC-AI International’s commitment to strengthening artificial intelligence research, innovation and practical training across Nigerian tertiary institutions, beginning with YABATECH, which he described as a strategic partner in advancing technology-driven education.
According to him, the initiative was inspired by a personal commitment to fulfil a promise made to his late father and his enduring passion for technical education.
“It is to fulfil my promise to my late father while growing up and my passion for technical education,” he said.
Dr Okpok explained that access to modern computing infrastructure remains critical to developing local capacity in artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science, noting that the server would provide lecturers, researchers and students with the computing power needed to undertake advanced AI projects.
He disclosed that MOC-AI International also donated similar AI and Machine Learning Servers, each valued at $20,000, to two Colleges of Education in the South-West as part of efforts to deepen digital capacity and expand access to AI infrastructure across Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
The conference also marked the commencement of the NBTE-NCCE-MOC AI and Machine Learning International Conference, where officials of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), and academics from polytechnics and colleges of education urged lecturers to embrace artificial intelligence and continuously upgrade their digital competencies.
The stakeholders described AI as an indispensable tool for transforming teaching, learning and research, calling on educators to become innovators capable of developing home-grown technological solutions to address national challenges.
No fewer than 54 members of staff of YABATECH, alongside other participants, applauded MOC-AI International for the donation, describing it as a practical demonstration of private sector commitment to advancing Nigeria’s technological and educational ecosystem.
The conference featured intensive hands-on training sessions on artificial intelligence, machine learning and other emerging digital technologies for lecturers and researchers drawn from tertiary institutions across the South-West.
