Ibom Deep Seaport Committee Inspects Project Site After France Meeting with Investors
The Akwa Ibom State Government has taken another significant step toward the realization of the Ibom Deep Seaport project, as members of the project’s Technical Committee and international consultants visited the proposed port site for an on-the-spot assessment.
The inspection, led by the Chairperson of the Ibom Deep Seaport Technical Committee, Barr. Mfon Ekong Usoro, followed a recent high-level engagement in Paris, France, involving Governor Umo Eno, the Ibom Deep Seaport Implementation Committee, and officials of Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Group, one of the prospective partners in the project.
The team, which included representatives of Dar Al-Handasah Consultants, the project’s master planners, and the Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, commenced the exercise with a technical session at the Ministry of Works in Uyo before proceeding to Unyenge and adjoining communities for a physical inspection of the proposed port corridor and access routes.
Speaking during the visit, officials emphasized the importance of developing the necessary road infrastructure and accessibility framework required to support the anticipated traffic and economic activities that will accompany the seaport’s operations.
Among those on the inspection tour were former Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem; Principal Consultant of Dar Al-Handasah, Mr. Rabah Ait Ali; and the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Projects and Director of Projects for the Technical Committee, Engr. Prof. Akaninyene Ekong.
Also present were the Permanent Secretary and directors of the Ministry of Works, Managing Director of Amitec Construction, Engr. Aiman Samua, as well as aides to the Governor, Dr. Essien Ndueso and Engr. Solomon Eyo.
The visit is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the Akwa Ibom State Government to advance the Ibom Deep Seaport project from the planning stage to full implementation, with stakeholders expressing optimism that the project will position the state as a major maritime and logistics hub in the Gulf of Guinea region.
