AKSG Delivers 1,050 Housing Units, Targets 1,000 More in 2027

By Imaobong Ekarika

The Akwa Ibom State Government says it is currently implementing housing projects across the State with more than 1,050 housing units at various stages of development under the administration of Governor Umo Eno, with another 1,000 units planned for 2027, as part of efforts to expand access to decent and affordable accommodation.

The Commissioner for Housing, Rt. Hon. Henry Archibong, disclosed this on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, during a ministerial briefing on the implementation of the administration’s people-centred development framework. He said the government had acquired and earmarked about 150 hectares of land across six locations for housing projects targeted at vulnerable citizens, professionals, public servants and Nigerians in the diaspora.

Rt. Hon. Archibong said the Aviation Village, one of the ministry’s flagship projects, is 98 per cent complete. The estate includes five housing units allocated to the Ministry of Aviation for visiting federal officials, a model primary school, a 70,000-litre water facility with reticulation, about 7.13 kilometres of roads, electricity, a police station and solar-powered CCTV security infrastructure. A second phase will include a secondary school and 100 additional housing units.

At the Medical City, the ministry is developing an 11.8-hectare residential estate comprising 50 three-bedroom bungalows and 50 four-bedroom terrace duplexes, alongside a model school and recreational facilities. The project, designed to support medical professionals and the State’s investment in the health sector, is about 70 per cent complete.

The Commissioner said the Executive and Legislative Quarters at the Dakadda Luxury Estate, covering 14,181 square metres, comprise 64 five-bedroom duplexes, with 32 allocated to legislators and 32 to members of the executive. The project, which includes recreational facilities, is 40 per cent complete. The Judiciary Quarters along Ring Road 3 cover about 6.3 hectares and consist of 54 residential duplexes, each with two boys’ quarters, security infrastructure, a recreational centre and conference hall, and are 70 per cent complete.

On social housing, Archibong highlighted the ARISE City Social and Affordable Housing Estate, where 250 two-bedroom bungalows are being developed. Construction according to him, is ongoing, with the first 100 units scheduled for delivery in December 2026. The administration is also developing 500 ARISE Compassionate Homes, of which 461 have been completed and handed over, excluding the 27 donated by individuals.

At Grace Estate, 236 units have been completed, with 150 allocated to civil servants, 36 subscribed for and 50 still available pending further directives from the Governor. The government has also provided residential buildings for local government chairmen to enable them live within their areas of jurisdiction. Meanwhile, Ewet Luxury Gardens comprises 35 high-end units designed for residents seeking premium accommodation, including members of the diaspora.

Rt. Hon. Archibong said the housing programme was generating economic activity through construction, employment and demand for building materials and services. He stressed that the estates were being delivered with supporting infrastructure, including roads, water, electricity, fencing and security, while the administration’s housing policy caters to vulnerable citizens, professionals, public servants and other residents rather than a single social class.

On the redevelopment of Ewet Housing Estate, the Commissioner hinted that Governor Eno had constituted a committee which assessed the estate and submitted recommendations for improved infrastructure and security. The plans include resurfacing damaged roads, filling potholes, establishing security posts and creating four controlled entrances, with some gates to be closed at designated periods. He added that the Governor had also directed provision for 1,000 additional housing units in the 2027 budget along Uyo Village Road as part of the expansion of mass housing.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, said the briefing was part of the government’s continuous accountability process, covering different MDAs, including the Ministry of Housing. He said more than 1,050 housing units had been delivered, with social housing accounting for over 75 per cent of the stock.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ekerete Udoh, thanked journalists for their partnership in advancing the ARISE Agenda, while the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Nsibiet John, represented by the Vice Chairman, Comrade Margaret Moore, commended the Commissioner for Information for sustained engagement and pledged continued objective reportage.

Also in attendance were directors from the Ministry of Housing; Statistician General, Mr. Uduak Isaac; General Manager of Akwa Ibom Newspaper Corporation, Mr. Umoette Umoette; media aides to the Governor, station managers of Comfort FM, Passion FM and Inspiration FM, chapel chairmen and other journalists.
