Akwa Ibom declares two doctors wanted over abandoned service
The Akwa Ibom State Government has declared two medical doctors wanted for failing to report for duty after being trained at public expense for eight years.
The doctors, Dr Uduakabasi Ita, a consultant radiologist, and Dr Mfonobong George Bassey, a consultant hematologist, are both staff of the Ministry of Health. Authorities say they must either resume work in the state civil service or refund the full cost of their training.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Ekem Emmanuel John, said government will enforce the policy that all medical officers trained by the state must serve the agreed number of years before resigning. He warned that Akwa Ibom would no longer allow highly skilled personnel to leave for greener pastures without first fulfilling their obligations to the people who sponsored their training.
