Akwa Ibom PDP Exco Sacked, Caretaker Committee Takes Over
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved its executive committee in Akwa Ibom State, led by Aniekan Akpan, and appointed a caretaker committee to oversee the party’s affairs for the next three months.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the decision was taken by the National Working Committee (NWC) in line with the PDP constitution amended in 2017.
The newly constituted caretaker committee is chaired by Igwat Umoren, with Harrison Ekpo as deputy chairman and Borono Bassey as secretary.
Other members include Bar. Ewa Okpo as publicity secretary, Emman Mbong as organising secretary, and representatives drawn from across the state’s political blocs.
The caretaker body will steer the party in Akwa Ibom until a new executive is elected.
The NWC called on stakeholders and members of the party in the state to remain united and committed to strengthening the PDP ahead of future elections.

PDP Dissolves Akwa Ibom State Exco, Constitutes Caretaker Committee for Chapter
The National Working Committee (NWC) of our great Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has at its meeting today, Tuesday, September 30th, 2025, pursuant to its powers under the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017) approved the dissolution of the Akwa State Executive of the Party.
Consequently, the NWC approved the composition of a Caretaker Committee to run the affairs of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of our Party from today, Tuesday, September 30th, 2025 for a period not exceeding 3 months, or until such a time a new State Executive Committee will be elected in the State.
