Edeobok community in Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, has heaved a sigh of relief after six years of blackout, following the provision of a 500KVA transformer by the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on University Education, Hon. Okpolupm Etteh.
The new transformer replaces the old 300KVA unit that had left the community in prolonged darkness, forcing many residents, churches, and businesses to rely on generators or relocate in search of steady electricity.
Speaking to a team of Journalists on a fact finding mission on Wednesday, 17th September, the Village Chairman, Chief Prince Godwin Jim, described the gesture as a major turning point for the people.
“I’m excited that you’re here. I’m happy that he’s our benefactor as far as this transformer is concerned. He made the promise during campaigns and we supported him. When it took long, we thought it was a ‘political promise,’ but when we least expected, he delivered,” Jim said.
Also reacting, the Village Youth President, Mr. Samuel Udoh, hailed Etteh as “God-sent,” noting that previous lawmakers had ignored their plight.
“Residents had to relocate from this community due to the non-availability of electricity. Churches and businesses only depended on generators. God brought us Etteh to facilitate this massive 500KVA transformer. We will continually support him because of his love for us,” Samuel said.
The Village Town Crier, Mr. Kingsley Etuk, said the upgrade would uplift the entire community.
“I’m happy over the provision of this transformer, an upgrade from the 300KVA, and the entire village is happy. Because of this we will shine more. We appreciate him and pray God to give him the enablement to do more,” Etuk said.
A businessman, Mr. John Abakasanga, also commended the lawmaker for what he described as a significant and lasting impact on the lives of Edeobok residents.
