Blame PHED for poor Power Supply in Akwa Ibom- AKSG
Despite presenting over bloated estimated bills for electricity consumers in Akwa Ibom State, the government has blamed Power Holding Electricity Distribution Company, (PHEDC) for poor supply of power in the state.
Managing Director of Ibom Power company, Engr. Meyen Etukudo made the revelation when he spoke to newsmen.
He lamented that despite a surplus of 70-80 megawatts generated by the State, Power Holding Electricity Distribution Company, PHEDC is still reluctant to distribute sufficient power to consumers in fear of non-payment.

The Ibom Power MD noted that the Ekim substation commissioned by the former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has a 160MVA transformer, and that despite its capacity to supply up to 48 megawatts, PHEDC’s uptake remains minimal, exacerbating the surplus of available electricity within the state.
According to him, ”The first sub station load centre is Ekim which was commissioned by former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. Ekim alone has 160MVA transformer. A 160MVA transformer is a 48MW of power. PHEDC has never taken up to 5-10megawatt at Ekim out of the 48megawatt. Even the dedicated line that was built for the industrial hub in Onna for the Syringe Manufacturing company, Lion Plywood, Flour mill, does not take up to 1megawatt because the companies we have does not take power like cement, steel company, and textile mills.
So Akwa Ibom power need right now is not up to 100megawatt. So what we’re generating can go round the state. Even if they take 70-80megawatt, it can go round but they are not utilizing it,” he added.
