PDP Urges Governor Umo Eno to Return as Rift over Political Structures Deepens

A political advocacy group within Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, to return to the party, accusing him of prioritising political manoeuvring over governance.

In a statement released on Thursday and signed by its chairman, Dr Tom FredFish, the PDP Advocates for Peace and Justice criticised comments attributed to the governor in which he reportedly claimed ownership of all political structures in Akwa Ibom State.

The group described the remarks as “regrettable” and a sign of desperation, arguing that citizens expect delivery on socio-economic challenges rather than political “grandstanding”.

It further claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) structure in Akwa Ibom was previously “handed over” to Governor Eno by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, questioning why the governor continues to battle for control.

“Governor Eno’s defection to the APC has been nothing short of a grave miscalculation bleak, unsustainable, and rooted in expediency rather than principle,” the statement said.

The group maintained that the APC “is not, and cannot be, his natural political home,” urging him instead to “retraces his steps” to the PDP while “there is still room for redemption.”
