I-SAVE Initiative Celebrates Akwa Ibom Girls on Girl-child Day

The Girl-child is globally recognised as a cardinal member of the society whose overall health and well-being matters.
Given the appropriate empowerment and support, they become productive, responsible and strong pillars in national development.
Bearing this in mind, the I-SAVE Initiative, an International Non-governmental organisation, made bold efforts to celebrate about 80 School Girls on the occasion of the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child.
Held at Government Technical College, Mbioto Ekpene Ituen in Etinan, Akwa Ibom State; the NGO through her progenitor, Deacon Ubong Ubom, reminded the girls of their worth, against false societal sentiments, adding that the NGO was poised at directing them to a clear vision for the future, as captured by the global theme for the Year: “Girls’ Vision for the Future”.
“We are giving them hope and a clear vision for the future; some of them are confused, but when you have people like I-Save Initiative come in to help and give them clarity for life, it gives them purpose for living”.
Himself an alumni of the School, the Old Boy described his Initiative’s efforts as a give-back to the Institution and their way of supporting Governor Umo Eno’s education policy in the Arise AGENDA.
In her address, Mrs. Peace Joshua who educated the girls on menstrual hygiene provided essential best practices for maintaining proper menstrual hygiene; outlining the health risks associated with poor management and stressing the benefits of safe hygiene practices.
Similarly, Comrade Mary Ekere who gave an insight into the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law 2020, encouraged them to report any form of violence, be it rape, female genital mutilation or domestic violence to appropriate authorities where perpetrators can be prosecuted and the future of the girls, protected.
Earlier in his remarks, the School Principal, Pastor Eno Akaitam, thanked the organization for celebrating the 2024 International Day of Girl Child in his school and stressed that he was happy that girls were embracing Technical education unlike before.
The event featured the distribution of sanitary kits to students of the School, school bags as well as devotional materials to boost their moral knowledge.
