FUATECH VC JP Essien thanks Tinubu, Akpabio, Eno over appointment
The pioneer Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, FUATECH- Obio Akpa, Joe Essien, has expressed gratitude to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno for his appointment, describing it as an opportunity to serve and contribute to the development of the institution.
He made the remarks when he was formally received at a gathering of political leaders, academics and stakeholders in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital marking his assumption of office at the newly established institution.
The event, chaired by Sunny Udom, drew a cross section of dignitaries including Godwin Udom, Sunny Sam, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, and Nnamso Idiong, among others, reflecting broad interest in the development of the institution.
In his remarks, Prof Essien expressed gratitude to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno for what he described as the confidence reposed in him to serve as the pioneer vice chancellor.
He said the opportunity comes with significant responsibility, particularly in laying a solid academic and administrative foundation for the university.
He outlined his commitment to building a centre of excellence in agricultural education, research and innovation, noting that the institution has the potential to contribute meaningfully to food security, job creation and economic development within the state and beyond.
He also called for the support and cooperation of stakeholders to ensure the successful takeoff and growth of the university.
Participants at the event described the appointment as a significant milestone for the Obio Akpa community and Akwa Ibom State at large, expressing optimism that the university would serve as a catalyst for development, capacity building and increased access to higher education in the region include the Chairman of the Occasion, Hon. Sunny Udom, Comrade Dominic Akpan former Secretary of NUJ, and a host of others.
