Christmas Village: Stop Impoverishing Akwa Ibom people Governor Umo Eno warns Charles Udoh
Following the disappointment with the activities at the 2024 Akwa Ibom Xmas village, there is speculation that Governor Pastor Umo Eno may consider replacing the Commissioner for Tourism, Mr. Charles Udoh.
Sources close to the government have hinted that Eno is unhappy with the execution of the event and is looking to make changes to improve the state’s tourism sector.
While no official decision has been made, the governor’s urging for Udoh to “redeem himself” has fueled rumors that his position could be in jeopardy.
The governor stated this during the commissioning of waste disposal equipment at Akwa Ibom State Waste Management Agency secretariat, saying that he will deal with anyone found reselling the kiosks which the state government has pegged at 100, 000 naira.
“Some people purchased the shops at a reduced rate of 100k and are reselling it for 300k. I have credible intelligence that some people went and bought the shops and are now reselling for 300k. If anybody tells you to pay 300k, please report the person immediately to Barr. Morgan Ekanem, who is my Senior Special Assistant and we will arrest the person.
“People must stop profiteering from government intentional and I’m asking the Honourable Commissioner for Tourism to correct that immediately.
“Honourable commissioner for Tourism, redeem yourself, redeem your image. It cannot go for more than 100k because that is what the government has agreed,” the Governor said.
The Governor commended Prince Ikim for doing a good job in helping keep the state clean, urging him to do more to consolidate on the state’s status as the cleanest state in Nigeria.
Equipment launched at the commissioning include, five Waste compacting trucks, four waste swing arm trucks, a pull-up truck with crane mechanism, fifty 6000 liters Dumpster, Six 1,200 liters Dumpster amongst others.
