Akwa Ibom Governor Calls for Prayers to Realise International Airport Vision
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged residents to sustain prayers for peace, unity and development, saying spiritual support remains crucial to the realisation of key projects, including the state’s international airport ambitions.
Speaking on Saturday at the January edition of the Government House Monthly Prayer Service in Uyo, the governor said several critical benchmarks must still be met for Akwa Ibom to attain full international airport status and compete effectively within the Gulf of Guinea aviation corridor.
Addressing the congregation at the service, themed “Limitless Possibilities With God”, Governor Eno described the gathering as both a thanksgiving for the new year and a reaffirmation of collective faith in divine guidance for the state. He called on religious leaders to not only pray but also visit ongoing projects to intercede for their timely and successful completion.
The governor disclosed that his administration currently has 60 priority projects underway, alongside more than 1,300 kilometres of roads completed or under construction across the state. He urged citizens to exercise restraint in public discourse and emphasised unity and constructive engagement as essential to sustained progress.
Governor Eno also charged political and community leaders to mobilise eligible citizens for voter and party registration, while encouraging clergy to educate their congregations on civic responsibility. He announced a special prayer night scheduled for 30 January to intensify intercession for the state.
The prayer service featured an exhortation by the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Dr Christian Nyong, who said the church remained united behind the administration and its development agenda.
Dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Udeme Otong, senior government officials and religious leaders.
