Dudu Foundation
The Dudu Foundation, in collaboration with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has launched a skill acquisition training programme for persons living with disabilities in Akwa Ibom.
The foundation, established more than five years ago by Lady Edu Offong, focuses on supporting vulnerable groups through skills training, educational support, medical outreach, and financial assistance to promote self-reliance.
Speaking at the event, Lady Edu said: “For far too long, persons living with disabilities have been overlooked and their voices unheard. Yet, we know that disability is not inability.”
She explained that the programme was designed to equip participants with skills, tools, and support systems that would enable them to live independent and productive lives. She commended the NDDC for its partnership, describing collaboration between government and civil society as vital for long-lasting impact.
Lady Edu also thanked Senate President Godswill Akpabio for his support and presence, noting that his leadership continues to inspire confidence.
The event featured the donation of wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids, and other assistive devices, as well as back-to-school materials for more than 80 pupils and students. Some beneficiaries also received spontaneous empowerment packages.
The programme continues tomorrow with selected participants expected to receive Point of Sale (POS) machines and training in soap and detergent production.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Helen Cletus Tom, who received a wheelchair, expressed gratitude to the foundation, NDDC, and the Senate President, saying the support would help them pursue self-development and ease their daily challenges.
