Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has announced the recruitment of 1,000 new staff into the state judiciary to tackle longstanding manpower shortages.
Speaking at a church service in Uyo marking the start of the 2025/2026 Legal Year, the governor said the move would help speed up court hearings and reduce prison congestion.
He explained that applications must be submitted through the State Employment Portal and emphasised that recruitment would be based strictly on merit.
“There will be no slot for anyone, no godfatherism,” Mr Eno said, adding that applicants would be required to pass a computer-based test.
The governor also pledged to provide more vehicles for judges and magistrates to improve mobility and strengthen the justice system.
