Akwa Ibom Governor’s Press Secretary Pledges Stronger Media Collaboration

The Chief Press Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Ekerette Udoh, has pledged to deepen collaboration between the government and the media in the state.

Mr Udoh made the commitment during a courtesy visit by the Akwa Ibom chapter of the National Guild of Private Broadcast Station Managers and On Air Personalities, led by its chairperson, Maureen Umanah.

He stressed the importance of professionalism and constructive engagement, commending the broadcast media for its contributions to the state since 2015. He, however, cautioned against the spread of misinformation or the use of platforms for personal grievances.

“We value the media’s role in highlighting the governor’s programmes and the Arise Agenda,” Mr Udoh said. “But we urge practitioners to ensure that misinformation and falsehood do not distract the public.”

In her remarks, Mrs Umanah congratulated Governor Umo Eno on his achievements and awards within two years in office. She also thanked Mr Udoh for maintaining a cordial working relationship between the government and the media, and called for deeper cooperation to promote good governance.

The Guild presented a document outlining its needs and objectives. The delegation included Elsie Udofia of Redemption FM, Sam Akpan of Comfort FM, Ubong Essien of Memories FM, Ekaette Johnny of Tang Sio FM, and Revken Ogbunehu of The Mixx FM.

Francis Edet, the Guild’s state officer, said the visit was expected to strengthen ties between the government and broadcasters and foster more effective communication in Akwa Ibom State.
