Akwa Ibom Gears Up to Celebrate Two Years of Umo Eno’s ‘Spectacular Performance

Hon. Aniekan Umana

As Akwa Ibom State approaches the second anniversary of Governor Umo Eno’s administration, the State Government is preparing for a month-long celebration highlighting sweeping reforms, infrastructure investments, and community-focused governance under the ARISE Agenda.

At a press briefing Tuesday, Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, unveiled a robust calendar of events beginning May 17, aimed at showcasing what he described as “spectacular performance” in the governor’s first 24 months in office.

From agriculture to infrastructure, education to aviation, the Eno-led government has launched ambitious projects and policies aimed at transforming the socio-economic landscape of the oil-rich state. These include over 163 roads totaling more than 700 kilometers, the rollout of a model farm network, the expansion of Ibom Air, and the construction of key maritime facilities in Oron.

In the health and education sectors, the government has completed dozens of model health centers and schools, while also initiating bursaries, disability funds, and youth empowerment schemes. Nearly 80 billion naira has been paid in outstanding pensions and gratuities, while 150 housing units have been allocated to low-income civil servants.

Security and digital transformation have also been front-burner priorities, with the creation of dedicated ministries and intelligence-driven programs like Ibom Community Watch. Akwa Ibom is now ranked as one of the safest states in Nigeria.

Among the flagship developments are the Ibom Deep Seaport preparations, the new Quaternary Hospital, the AKBC Broadcasting Complex, and the ARISE Compassionate Homes project—206 of which have been delivered to vulnerable citizens.

The state will mark the anniversary with a prayer session, project commissioning events, and a statewide thanksgiving service. The celebrations, themed *“Two Years of Spectacular Performance,”* will run through mid-June.

While the government frames the anniversary as a time of celebration and recommitment, analysts will also be watching closely to see if the momentum of the ARISE Agenda can be sustained in the years ahead.
