Despite splashing 250 million naira as Xmas package, Federal Lawmaker Commissions 1.3km Road Project
**Ikono, Akwa Ibom
The member representing Ikono / Ini Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-udo, has officially inaugurated the newly constructed 1.3km Usung Obo Road in the Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The ceremony, which took place on Friday, 24th January 2025, attracted a large crowd of local residents, stakeholders, and notable dignitaries from across the region.
The road, designed to enhance connectivity and promote economic activity, includes a dual drainage system to manage water flow and solar-powered streetlights to improve nighttime visibility and security.
In his address at the commissioning, Ukpong-udo emphasized the transformative impact the road will have on local transportation and commerce.Â
He said “This project is a symbol of our commitment to tangible development, It is a step forward in making Ikono/Ini a better place to live and work, improving access, security, and opportunities for growth.”
The road’s construction was made possible through federal funding, with Ukpong-udo thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support.
He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, and Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for fostering an environment conducive to cross-party development initiatives.
The commissioning was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, led by Air Vice Marshal Akpasa, followed by an inspection of the completed roadwork.
Local leaders, including the Member Representing Ikono/Ini State Constituency, Hon. Asuquo Nana Udo, and the Paramount Ruler of Ikono, Edidem Etim Nnanga Itang, commended Ukpong-udo for his leadership and the lasting impact of the project.
The Usung Obo Road is one of several infrastructure projects launched by Ukpong-udo, who previously donated N250 million worth of Christmas packages to his constituents in December 2024. He has also recently commissioned a classroom block at St. Mary’s Secondary School, Ikot Nseyen, as part of his ongoing efforts to improve educational facilities in the area.
Constituents like Pastor Imo Usung from Ini LGA have expressed gratitude for the road, noting that it will alleviate travel challenges and enhance overall safety and connectivity.
