IBOM AIR PROMISES MORE LOWER FARES AS NEW AIRCRAFT ARRIVES, PLANES RETURN FROM MAINTENANCE
Ibom Air says passengers may have access to more lower-fare tickets as the airline prepares to increase its capacity with the arrival of its third Airbus A220-300 aircraft and the return of aircraft currently undergoing scheduled maintenance.
The airline disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, August 31, 2026, while responding to recent public concerns over differences in ticket prices across its network.
Ibom Air said its ticket prices are determined by a standard airline pricing system in which seats are sold in different fare classes, beginning with the lowest available fares.
According to the airline, as lower-priced tickets are purchased, the remaining seats move into higher fare bands, making tickets more expensive as flights fill up or departure dates approach.
The airline explained that passenger demand on its Uyo routes is currently significantly higher than on the recently resumed Calabar route.
It said bookings on the Calabar route have remained at about 20 to 25 per cent of available capacity, allowing more lower-fare tickets to remain available.
However, Ibom Air said its Uyo flights currently record load factors of about 95 to 100 per cent, meaning lower-fare seats are often purchased much earlier.
The airline said a temporary reduction in available aircraft, as some planes undergo mandatory scheduled maintenance, has also affected its operations.
As a result, Ibom Air said it reduced its Lagos–Uyo and Abuja–Uyo frequencies from three daily flights to two.
However, the airline said capacity is expected to improve with the arrival of its third Airbus A220-300, registered 5N-CDC, as well as the gradual return of aircraft from maintenance beginning in September.
“As capacity increases, we intend to offer more lower-fare seats,” the airline said.
Ibom Air, however, did not specifically announce a general reduction in ticket prices, but said increased capacity would enable it to make more seats available in the lower fare categories.
The airline advised customers seeking cheaper tickets to book early, noting that all fares remain subject to availability.
Ibom Air also pledged to continue increasing capacity, improving affordability and providing safe and reliable services to passengers.
