Governor Umo Eno Has Not Abandoned Us, Says Late Inspector’s Son
… As family dismisses claims of neglect, commends governor for support during period of grief
The family of late Inspector Hosanna Akpan, a police officer attached to the Akwa Ibom State Government House, has refuted allegations circulating on social media that Governor Umo Eno abandoned them following the officer’s death.
Speaking with journalists while showing them a building project being undertaken for the family at the instance of the governor, the deceased’s first son, Ubong Emmanuel, described the reports as false and misleading.
According to him, Governor Umo Eno has remained supportive and in touch with the family both financially and materially since the demise of the officer.
“My name is Ubong Emmanuel, the first son of late Inspector Hosanna Akpan, who served in Government House before her death. We have seen several videos online alleging that the governor has abandoned our family. I want to state clearly that the governor has not abandoned us.
“He has pledged financial support to the family and is currently building a two-bedroom apartment for us in Uyo. His Excellency has also promised to sponsor my sister’s education until she graduates. We are grateful for these gestures and appeal to the public to allow us mourn our mother in peace,” he said.
The housing project, located on a street off Abak Road in Uyo, has reached the roofing stage, while construction of the soakaway system has already been completed.
Ubong Emmanuel who appealed for a job placement in a state government parastatal, expressed appreciation to Governor Umo Eno for his intervention and reiterated that they had not been neglected, contrary to claims being circulated in some quarters.
