2027: Israel James Declares for Abak State Assembly, Faults Decline in Legislative Representation
A policy and government strategist, Israel James, has declared his intention to contest for the Abak State Constituency seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
Speaking shortly after purchasing his nomination form, James described himself as a viable alternative to what he called the “historic decline in legislative representation” in Abak State Constituency.
The aspirant, who hails from Ediene Clan in Abak Local Government Area, said his decision to contest was partly motivated by what he described as the prolonged denial of political representation to the clan.
“ Ediene Abak is the only clan that has been denied the opportunity to represent the state constituency at the State House of Assembly…that is not the only reason to run for office. my credibility precedes me, but the opportunity to represent Ediene Clan, is also an added advantage,” he stated
The policy strategist also spoke on governance and policy continuity in Akwa Ibom State, arguing that several successful executive interventions over the years were never institutionalised through legislation.
According to him, one of the responsibilities of the State House of Assembly is to translate impactful executive programmes into laws capable of surviving beyond administrations.
“And that’s the job of the State House of Assembly, to translate successful executive interventions into law. Because as a policy and government strategist, I have dealt with policies at the national level, and I understand the role of policy in economic development and social prosperity,” he stated.
James unveiled a five-point agenda centred on education, energy, commercial agriculture, social investment and security, describing them as strategic sectors necessary for the development of Akwa Ibom State.
“When you speak about the problems of Abak State Constituency, vis-à-vis marrying it with my agenda, you will see I carefully crafted out five points; education, energy, commercial agriculture, social investment, and security. And these are focal points that would give birth to the Akwa Ibom that we desire,” he added.
He further disclosed that he had already purchased his Expression of Interest form, describing it as proof of his commitment to the race ahead of the 2027 elections.
