Samuel Ukut launches Compassionate Home project, applauds Umo Eno’s people-oriented administration
Principal of the Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara Partnership Project, Prince Samuel Ukut, has launched a Compassionate Home project for a financially distressed family in Ikot Ediet community, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The project, which began with a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new house, is aimed at providing shelter for Mr. Imo Okuk Etim, whose family was left homeless after their building collapsed.
The foundation for the building was laid by the Political Leader of Ikot Ekpene, Adede Kufre Inima, during a brief ceremony attended by the village head of Ikot Ediet, Chief Friday Archibong Umoekot, executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ward 11 and other community members.
Speaking during the ceremony, Prince Ukut said he was moved to intervene after coming across a video online showing the family appealing for assistance following the collapse of their home.
Prince Ukut also applauded the administration of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, describing it as people-oriented and committed to policies that promote compassion and support for vulnerable citizens.
According to him, the Compassionate Home project is part of a broader effort to support vulnerable families and bring relief to communities in need.
“I stumbled on a video of a family seeking help online and I told myself that we need to respond,” he said.
“You all know that when leadership changes, some things are done differently. This is a new season in Ikot Ekpene and things will be done differently. You do not need to know someone who knows someone before God’s favour will reach you.”
Prince Ukut described the intervention as a sign of hope for the community, noting that similar support would be extended to other communities.
“Ikot Ediet is very lucky that God’s goodness has reached this community, and so it will be in other communities because our wish is that our communities will be better,” he added.
In his remarks, the Political Leader of Ikot Ekpene, Adede Kufre Inima, commended the initiative, describing it as an act of compassion and service to humanity.
He said helping the poor, especially by providing shelter, is a noble act that attracts divine reward.
“I am very touched by what the Prince has done. When he was speaking earlier, I thought he already knew the beneficiary, but he has said here that this is the first time he is meeting them,” Inima said.
Also speaking, the Ette Idung of Ikot Ediet, Chief Friday Archibong Umoekot, expressed gratitude to Prince Ukut for responding to the plight of the family and bringing relief to the community.
He noted that Ikot Ediet community had previously felt neglected but expressed optimism that the intervention would mark the beginning of greater development for the area.
Umoekot added that the community would continue to support initiatives that promote welfare and improve the living conditions of residents.
