2027: Oruk Anam/Ukanafun stakeholders reject Idem’s third term bid, insist on zoning
Stakeholders in the Oruk Anam/Ukanafun Federal Constituency have rejected any move to allow the current lawmaker, Unyime Idem, to seek a third term, insisting that power should rotate to Oruk Anam in line with the constituency’s zoning arrangement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This was contained in a communiqué issued by stakeholders of the Oruk Anam/Ukanafun Federal Constituency at a town hall meeting held at the Civic Centre, Ikot Akpan Eda, Oruk Anam. The communiqué was read by Hon. Godwin Udom, immediate past Chairman of the Technical School Board and former Special Adviser to the Governor, who convened the meeting.
“The meeting places on record its profound appreciation to past and present stakeholders… for instituting and sustaining the rotational arrangement between the Ukanafun and Oruk-Anam blocs,” the communiqué stated, noting that the framework has prevented Oruk Anam dominance, ensured fairness and inclusiveness, and “served as a stabilising mechanism, fostering unity and reducing political tension” within the constituency.
The stakeholders unanimously endorsed Engr. Aniekan Abraham, popularly known as Anisolo, as the preferred candidate from the Oruk Anam bloc, citing his experience, accessibility, and leadership qualities.
