Niger-Delta Food Security Summit to Hold in Uyo April 2026
The Chairman of the Planning Committee for the Niger-Delta Food Security Summit and Expo, Emmanuel Robert, has officially announced the unveiling of the 2026 summit, aimed at addressing food insecurity, energy challenges and youth unemployment in the region.
Robert made the announcement during a press briefing on Tuesday 24 February at Eemjm Hotels, Dominic Utuk Avenue, Uyo.
He described the proposed gathering as a strategic initiative designed to confront growing concerns about food systems and economic opportunities across the Niger-Delta.
According to him, the summit will take place from April 22 to April 24, 2026, at Ceedapeg Hotels in Uyo.
He said the event will focus on the theme: “Food Security, Energy and Youth Inclusivity: Engaging the Youths to Secure the Future of the Niger-Delta.”
Robert noted that despite the region’s rich natural resources, many communities across Niger Delta continue to face food insecurity, unemployment and environmental challenges affecting agriculture and livelihoods.
He explained that the summit would bring together state governments, development finance institutions, private sector investors, agribusiness operators, energy companies, civil society groups, academics and youths from the nine Niger-Delta states.
The three-day programme will feature plenary sessions, technical workshops, roundtable discussions and an exhibition platform for innovators, agribusinesses and youth-led enterprises.
Robert added that the summit is designed not only as a forum for discussions but also as a platform to develop practical solutions and investment opportunities in agriculture, energy and youth empowerment.
The Food and Agriculture Organization Country Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Hussein Gadain, is expected to deliver the keynote address.
He also highlighted the choice of Uyo as host city, noting that Akwa Ibom State has made significant progress in infrastructure and development.
The organizing committee called on the media and stakeholders to support the initiative by promoting discussions around food security challenges in the Niger-Delta.
Robert further disclosed that a series of pre-summit activities have commenced, including consultations across the nine Niger-Delta states, youth mobilization, stakeholder engagements and innovation showcases ahead of the main event.
He expressed optimism that the summit would help shape practical policies and partnerships capable of improving food production, energy access and economic opportunities for young people across the region.
