Coalition of Health Sector Leaders Hails Gov. Umo Eno’s Reforms in Akwa Ibom Healthcare System
…Commends approval of new allowances, recruitment, and hospital renovations

The Coalition of All Health Sector Leaders (CAHSEL) in Akwa Ibom State has commended Governor Umo Bassey Eno, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to transforming the state’s health sector through far-reaching reforms and welfare packages for healthcare professionals.
Speaking during a press conference in Uyo on Monday 20 October, 2025, the coalition expressed deep gratitude to the governor for what they described as a “revolutionary repositioning” of the healthcare system.
In a statement jointly signed by Dr. Aniekan Imo Peter, Pharm. Abasiama Uwatt, Apostle Ekerete Bassey Bassey, and Dr. Ithiel Essien, they noted that the healthcare is aimed at improving efficiency, accessibility, and service delivery across all tiers of healthcare in the state.
They applauded the governor’s recent approval of new allowances for healthcare workers in the state, describing it as a morale-boosting incentive that will improve staff retention, curb the “Japa syndrome,” and enhance productivity.
The coalition noted that the new incentives reflect Governor Eno’s compassion and determination to improve the welfare of healthcare professionals, thereby strengthening the entire healthcare delivery system.
“This monumental decision will go a long way in improving the quality of healthcare services in Akwa Ibom and enhancing the well-being of its citizens. By prioritizing the needs of healthcare practitioners, the governor has shown that he values their dedication, resilience, and sacrifices in serving humanity despite numerous challenges,” they noted.
The group further observed that Nigeria currently has one of the highest patient-to-health-worker ratios globally, making the new welfare package a significant step toward addressing workforce shortages and reducing brain drain in the state.
While pledging total support for Governor Eno’s administration and its health-focused components of the ARISE Agenda, they reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to ensure attitudinal change, professional excellence, and improved service delivery among healthcare personnel.
“We will work assiduously with the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, and all stakeholders to improve staff commitment and ensure that empathy, resilience, and dedication define the conduct of our members,” the coalition said.
The coalition described Governor Umo Eno as “a trailblazer, health-loving and result-oriented leader,” pledging to support his administration beyond 2027 while mobilizing grassroots backing for his ongoing and proposed projects, including the Ibom International Hospital and the Ibom Medical University.
Speaking also, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, who was represented by the Council’s Secretary, Comrade Nsikak Esenowo, commended the Coalition of Health Sector Leaders for their contributions to the development of the health sector and the improvement of human lives.
He assured the Union’s readiness to accord the organisation the publicity it deserves, in support of the continued growth and advancement of the health sector in Akwa Ibom State.
